JBC Christmas Party/Awards Ceremony

The Christmas Party/end of the year awards ceremony was held on Saturday Dec 3rd at the Lodge at Eagle Ridge.  It was a great time as usual.  Food was outstanding and the turn out was as well.  It was a great end to a tremendous year for the club.  The Ladies had a great time as well and all walked away with several gifts and 3 walked away with $100!  Below are some pics from the Party.

Your award winners were:
Angler of the Year - JJ Wilson
Co-Angler of the Year - George Thrash
Lunker of the Year - Joel Peeler
Sportsman of the Year - Carl Sandberg

President - Greg Horne and Tournament Director - Jim Lowe did an outstanding job as usual.

The leadership for 2012 is already hard at work for you.  VP Pete Larson has been very busy and we will have some very exciting announcements soon that you will not want to miss!  (hints...sponsorships, meeting agendas/speakers, etc).  Lets see if we can't make 2012 better than 2011!  Now is the time to be looking for prospective members for the club.  If they come before the board in January or February and then approved by the general membership they will get points from all 10 tournaments!

November Newsletter - Providence Results/Final Year End Results

Well the final tournament of the year is in the books, which brings to an end a tremendous fishing year for our club. Those that made the trip to Providence were treated to a great time of fellowship, and incredible steak dinner by Robert Bailey and Chris Dill, and some good fishing as well. Sure doesn’t hurt that the club paid for the hotel rooms and the steak dinner either!! And I believe it is fair to say that Larry Lowery has recovered from his 5 by pass surgery a little more than 7 weeks ago….seeing as he showed up at providence and won the two day tournament by 5.50lbs with a two day total of 21.02lbs. Congrats Larry on the big win! George Thrash came through again at Providence winning the Co-Angler side with a two day total of 12.96lbs.

Below are the top anglers from this weekend.

5th Place – Jim Lowe 13.51 Lbs

Biggest one day sack brought to the scales:
17.52lbs – Larry Lowery on Ross Barnett in March

So let’s compare how we did in total in 2011 compared to 2010.

                                                                             2010              2011        Difference
Total number of fish weighed                                560                 647            +87
Total weight of fish weighed                                 1065.11         1265.77      +200.66
Average weight per fish weighed                          1.90               1.96            +.06
Number of limits brought to the scales                  53                  92               + 39
Angler with most fish weighed                             MM - 46        JJ – 53         + 7
Angler with most limits brought to the scale *      MM – 7          JJ – 10         + 3
Angler with the most total weight                        MM 103.18    JJ 105.82     + 2.64

* JJ Wilson weighed in a limit 10 of 11 times this year.

As you can see from the stats above, we had a much better year this year compared to last year. And keep in mind that we did this with about 4-5 fewer anglers. We hit it each lake at about the perfect time and the statistics speak for themselves. The one that stands out to me the most is the number of limits brought to the scales. We had 39 more limits brought to the scales in 2011 than 2010 with fewer anglers. Great job guys! I think we all need to thank our tournament director Jim Lowe for putting together a great tournament schedule this year. This is not an easy job and you will never please everyone in this role. Jim did a great job and even made some really good tough choices this year on the fly that in turned really helped our chances this year. Thanks Jim!

Upcoming Events in August

• Board of Directors Meeting at Sal and Phils Tuesday November 8th
• General Membership meeting at Sal and Phils Tuesday November 15th – there are several tournament awards that need to be given out to some guys who very rarely show up at our general membership meetings. Please show up and collect these as the club pays good money for these awards and we don’t want them to go to waste.
• BIG REMINDER – our club Christmas party is coming up quickly on Saturday December 3rd at the Eagle Ridge Lodge on the Hinds Community College Campus. This is another opportunity for incredible food and fellowship and we also give out all of the end of year awards – so please mark it down, start working on baby sitters now (for those this applies to), and show up and lets end this club year on a good note. Someone will be in contact with you soon about bringing a covered dish.

Barnett Results/October Newsletter

Saturday marked our final tournament of the year on Ross Barnett. The weather was perfect and we pretty much had the lake to ourselves as there were only a few other boats out and about. The fishing was about par for the course for Barnett. In total we had 14 anglers fish weighing in 61 fish for a total of 101.58 lbs for an average fish of 1.67 lbs. Out of the 4 tournaments we fished on Barnett this year (March, April, May and October) – this month was the 2nd most fish we weighed out of the four.

At the end of the day, JJ Wilson did what JJ Wilson does and that is he weighed a limit of fish that totaled 11.51 lbs and won the Angler side of the tournament. For those keeping up –JJ has weighed a limit in all 9 tournaments this year. No surprise he is leading the Angler points race (and with this win has pretty much has it wrapped up)!! On the co-angler side – George Thrash came in with a 5 fish limit that weighed 9.38 lbs to win the Co-Angler side. Heading in to the final tournament of the year he now leads this race by 1 point over Randy Mills. Here are some things to think about as it comes down to the wire for this race: Both anglers next tournament cull would be a 15. Hypothetically: if Randy wins Providence and George comes in second – they would be tied. However, the tie is broken by the biggest fish weighed all year. Result thus far: Randy Mills 3.76, George Thrash 3.57. So as you can see there is a multitude of ways this can play out and it is going to be fun to watch it happens over two days at Lake Providence.

Below are the top anglers from this weekend.

Angler Division:

1st Place – JJ Wilson (Basscat) 11.51 Lbs
2nd Place – RB Shephard (Ranger) 10.00 Lbs
3rd Place – Mike Murphy (Basscat) 9.79 Lbs
4th Place – Johnnie Baker (Skeeter) 7.92 Lbs
5th Place – TJ Hare, Sr. (Ranger) 7.76 Lbs

Co-angler Division:

1st Place – George Thrash 9.38 Lbs
2nd Place – Randy Mills 7.30 Lbs
3rd Place – Bill Mays 2.67 Lbs

I am glad the basscat owners took note of the previous newsletter comment and decided to step up their game a little this tournament. Kudos to JJ and Mike for representing the Basscat Team this tournament…..although it did seem like there was one less Basscat boat on the water this weekend which certainly didn’t help yall’s cause but I just couldn’t figure out who was missing…..oh yeah…that’s right….I forgot, TJ Hare, Jr. was in Starkville watching the Bulldogs lose to South Carolina rather than helping his beloved Basscat team. My bad…no wonder the Basscat Team has struggled this year with teammates of that kind of dedication level!!!

Lunker honors were taken by Johnnie Baker with a 3.98lb fish. Congratulations to all these fishermen from this weekend. In Team News: JJ’s team won, again. Followed by the Culprits and War Eagles….blah blah blah.

This tournament marked the first tournament which an angler could cull a previous tournament. Remember – we take your best 8 tournaments for the year. However, if you fish all 10 tournaments you still get your participation points from the two culled tournaments which turns into 4 very valuable points. If you are one of the anglers who has fished every tournament this year – the grey box in your point list is the tournament I culled for you. The 2 participation points are still included in your overall point total.

Upcoming Events in October:
• General Membership meeting tomorrow night at Sal and Phils (this Tuesday – October 18th). We are voting on two new board members so please be there.
• Two Day Tournament – final tournament of the year on November 5th and 6th at Lake Providence, LA.

We will vote on office positions at the November 15th General membership meeting. We will announce the candidates for these positions at tomorrow night’s general membership meeting.

We are down to our last tournament of the year which is always an incredible time. Club pays for two nights of your hotel room and your steak dinner cooked by Robert Bailey on Saturday night. Providence generally provides for some good fishing as well. I truly hope you can make this event.

Lake Ferguson results, September Newsletter

The anglers that made the trip to Ferguson this weekend were blessed with incredible weather and even better fishing if you can believe that. I heard prefishing reports of catches between 40-75 fish each day and it certainly carried over to tournament day as just about everybody I talked to caught over 30 fish saturday. For the first time since I have been in the club (2006) every angler weighed in a limit of fish!! In total we had 17 anglers fish weighing in 85 fish for a total of 170.88 lbs for an average fish of 2.01 lbs. This is the most fish weighed this year (previous was lake Chicot with 76 fish). We have certainly hit most of our lakes are the right time this year and been blessed with some great fishing.

At the end of the day, Carl Sandberg won the angler side with 5 fish that weighed 14.46lbs. The Angler race is heating up at the top with a tight race going on for 2nd and 3rd place between RB, Greg and Carl with only 3 points separating these three. On the co-angler side – Randy Mills won with 5 fish weighing 9.24lbs. With the win he and George Thrash are now tied at 115 points. With only 2 tournaments remaining – who wants to win this race the most??? Can’t wait to see it play out!

Below are the top anglers from this weekend.

Angler Division:

1st Place – Carl Sandberg (Ranger)                      14.46 Lbs
2nd Place – Steven Bailey (Ranger)                       12.53 Lbs
3rd Place – Mike Overall (fished out of a Ranger) 11.64 Lbs
4th Place – TJ Hare, Sr. (Ranger)                           9.93 Lbs
5th Place – Greg Horne (Ranger)                            9.88 Lbs

Co-angler Division:

1st Place – Randy Mills                                         9.24 Lbs
2nd Place – George Thrash                                   7.85 Lbs

I have been noticing a trend this year but didn’t want to say anything because I was afraid it might hurt someone’s feelings. But I can’t ignore it any longer. That trend is the Ranger boat fishermen dominating the tournaments month in and month out!!! Once again, as noted above, they dominated Ferguson. Looking at the overall points race, 4 of the current top 5 anglers are all Ranger fisherman. Coincidence???? I think not. I think it is time all of you Basscat, Skeeter, and Triton owners start paying attention to what us Ranger owners are doing!!! HA!!!!

Lunker honors were taken by our newest member, Jeff Hankins with a 4.88lb fish. Thanks for showing up and taking our money Jeff!!!! And what do you know – Jeff Hankins fishes out of a Ranger boat as well, no surprise there. Congratulations to all these fishermen from this weekend. In Team News: We all know which team won, however I am proud to say that fishing with the fewest members this weekend (4) – the WAR EAGLE team destroyed the Culprit team (fishing with 5 members) by a margin of 57 to 44 points to take 2nd place this weekend! Congrats to Pete Larson (captain), Steven Bailey, Carl Sandberg, and George Thrash for your efforts!!

Only two tournaments remain. After the next tournament – I will begin culling your lowest tournament score. (Remember we take your best 8 tournaments for the year). This will make a big difference in the points race so it is very important you show up and fish these last two tournaments – every point counts!!

Upcoming Events in August

• General Membership meeting tomorrow night at Sal and Phils (this Tuesday – Sept 20th). Make an effort to be there!

REMEMBER – Insurance. I am still missing insurance on several of you. Below are the anglers I need evidence of insurance on. Please help me out here and if you name is listed below get me your insurance as soon as you can. I need to have your updated insurance in file prior to the October tournament if you plan to fish it. Thanks.

August Newsletter/Chotard Tournament Results

Even with the heat, humidity and 100 + boats on the water, Lake Chotard turned out to be another solid weekend for the JBC. All of the anglers did a great job of getting to the ramp early in anticipation of the spill over affects from the big tournament going out of the Chotard Landing. Overall eight anglers weighed in limits and in total we weighed 50 fish for a total of 102.56 lbs for an average fish of 2.05 lbs. That is pretty good considering the heat and the # of boats running on the lake all day.

TJ Hare, Sr. returned with a vengeance from a two tournament hiatus due to back surgery and won the Angler division with 5 fish weighing 14.63 lbs! Even more impressive is he did this with Jr. in the back of the boat complaining all day!!! Congrats and welcome back Sr!! On the co-angler side - George Thrash pulled out back to back to back wins with 5 fish that weighed 10.74 lbs! With the win he is now ahead of Randy by 1 point in the Co-Angler race. This is going to be an exciting race to watch. Pressure will be on their respective anglers at each tournament to put them on some fish!!

Below are the top anglers from this weekend.

Angler Division:
1st Place – TJ Hare, Sr               14.63 Lbs
2nd Place – Mike Murphy           12.91 Lbs
3rd Place – Steven Bailey            11.76 Lbs
4th Place – Carl Sandberg           10.36 Lbs
5th Place – J.J. Wilson                 10.20 Lbs

Co-angler Division:
1st Place – George Thrash           10.74 Lbs
2nd Place – Randy Mills                 1.16 Lbs

Lunker honors were taken by Mike Murphy with a 4.65lb fish. Congratulations to all these fishermen. In Team News: We all know which team won, however the War Eagle Team made a valiant effort to get out of last place for this tournament turning in 54 points putting them in a tie with the Culprit Team. The deciding factor…..# of fish weighed. Final result - Culprits: 17; War Eagles: 16. I hate being dead last. War Eagle Team – we only have three tournaments left – let’s win one of these jokers!!!

Since I am a banker/#’s guy I figured I would share some statics with the club to compare through the first 7 tournaments of 2011 to the first 7 tournaments of the 2010 year.

                                                                 2010              2011              Difference
Total number of fish weighed                     352                 401                +49
Total weight of fish weighed                      642.81            825.27           +182.46
Average weight per fish weighed               1.83                2.06               +.23
Number of limits brought to the scales       32                   54                  + 22
Angler with most fish weighed                   JJ - 28             JJ – 35           + 7
Angler with most limits                              JJ – 4              JJ – 7              + 3
Angler with the most total weight              MM – 58.85   JJ – 73.56       + 14.71

As you can see from the stats above, we are having a much better statistical year thus far in 2011 vs 2010. This is also being done with a few less members as well than we had last year. You can also see (and not that it is a surprise to anyone) that JJ Wilson is a fishing machine. He is the only angler to bring in a limit every tournament this year – that is pretty impressive! Let’s hope he can continue that streak through the remaining three tournaments of the year! If there are any other stats you would like to see let me know and I will see if there is a way to calculate them (depending on the data we have kept).

Only three tournaments remain – let’s continue building on what we got so far and finish strong! Reminder – each angler gets to cull two tournaments a year! This always plays a big factor in the overall points race this time of year so just because you have missed a few tournaments this year does not mean you are out of it – show up and make a run in the points race! Also, make note of the events below and make an effort to be there if you can. As usual – if there are any errors in the points/weights – let me know and I will get them corrected.

Upcoming Events in August
• Board of Directors Meeting at Sal and Phils Tuesday September 6th
• JBC Annual Fish Fry – Saturday September 10th at Lake Caroline (more details to come on this)
• Point tournament on Lake Ferguson Saturday September 17th
• General Membership meeting at Sal and Phils Tuesday September 20th

July Newsletter/Tournament #6 Results

What a good, tough decision made by Tournament Director Jim Lowe to move this past weekends tournament to Lake Ferguson from Lake Washington. The prefishing reports were bad, I mean real bad. You know when guys like JJ, Greg, RB, Larry, Mike, and Jim prefish a lake and don’t even touch a bass – things are not good! Therefore after several days of pre-fishing lake Washington to no avail the decision was made to move to Lake Ferguson. Ofcourse, anytime you make a last minute change like this there is always some who don’t like it. I will admit, initially I was one of them. But the more I thought about it, I came to realize that every tournament, whether scheduled or not, benefits some and puts some at a disadvantage. That’s just the way it is. Only thing to do is adjust, go fish and have fun. And that is exactly what we did as a club. We adjusted and ended up having one of the better days of our club year in terms of number of fish caught. Overall thirteen anglers weighed in limits and in total we weighed 76 fish for a total of 124.66 lbs for an average fish of 1.64 lbs. This is the second most fish weighed in a tournament this year (most is the April tournament on Barnett – 80).

RB Shephard and Scott Goza found a section of the lake that held some big fish and ended up 1st and 2nd (respectively) on the Angler side. Goza’s live well pumps went out costing them serious point deductions for dead fish, but in the end it didn’t hurt them as RB won with 15.22 lbs (was 16.47lbs) and Goza came in 2nd with 12.95 lbs (was 13.95lbs). On the co-angler side - George Thrash pulled out back to back wins with 5 fish that weighed 9.20 lbs! With the win he and Randy are now tied for the Co-Angler division lead. With only 4 tournaments left – this race is going to be a fun one to watch!
Below are the top anglers from this weekend.

Angler Division:
1st Place – RB Shephard 15.22 Lbs
2nd Place – Scott Goza 12.95 Lbs
3rd Place – Austin Banks, Jr. 10.39 Lbs
4th Place – Steven Bailey 10.17 Lbs
5th Place – Carl Sandberg 9.54 Lbs

Co-angler Division:
1st Place – George Thrash 9.20 Lbs
2nd Place – Kevin Daigle 6.40 Lbs
3rd Place – Randy Mills 6.25 Lbs
4th Place – Bill Mays 1.12 Lbs

Lunker honors were taken by RB Shephard with a 4.13lb fish. Congratulations to all these fishermen. Thanks for being flexible and making Ferguson such a good trip. JJ’s team won, again. JJ - go ahead and order your jackets!!

June Newsletter/Lake Chicot Tournament Results

For those of us who made the journey to Lake Village, Arkansas the weekend turned out to be absolutely incredible. The hot weather and 15-25 mph winds were overshadowed by the incredible fishing of Lake Chicot. Every angler I talked to reported catching 30 + fish each day. Granted a lot of these were below the 15 inch minimum but they were extremely chunky and a ton of fun to catch regardless. Just about everyone managed to catch some keepers and we ended up having three anglers with over 16 lbs and just about everyone improved their big fish for the year. Overall five anglers weighed in limits and in total we weighed 40 fish for a total of 115.56 lbs for an average fish of 2.89 lbs. That is far and away our best per lb average thus far this year. (ex: last month on Barnett we weighed 80 fish for 134.41 lbs for an average fish of 1.68 lbs).

Big time congrats go out to Johnnie Baker (again) for winning the Angler division (which is now Back to Back wins) with 5 fish that weighed 16.76 lbs! George Thrash won the Co-Angler division with 2 fish that weighed 6.03 lbs. According to the reports I got the primary lures used were a big worm, buzz bait, and crank bait. Below are the top anglers from this weekend.

Angler Division:
1st Place – Johnnie Baker 16.76 Lbs
2nd Place – Michael Clark 16.29 Lbs
3rd Place – Greg Horne 16.02 Lbs
4th Place – JJ Wilson 12.33 Lbs
5th Place – Carl Sandberg 11.26 Lbs

Michael Clark waiting to weigh his nice bag of fish

Co-angler Division:
1st Place – George Thrash 6.03 Lbs
2nd Place – Randy Mills 4.29 Lbs

Lunker honors were taken by Greg Horne with a 5.61 lb fish. Congratulations to all these fishermen. Thanks for making the journey to Lake Chicot. And for the biggest shocker of the weekend - JJ’s team won. Again. Can we please combine the War Eagle and Culprit Teams???

Greg Horne with his Lunker Fish

However, we do have quite a points race going on in both the Anger and Co-Angler division this year. Although the race on the Angler side appears to be for second place, as JJ Wilson has already opened a 17 point lead, there are 7 anglers between 46 and 53 points. The Co-Angler race is separated by only 3 points. These races should be fun to watch for the rest of the year.

Upcoming Events in June/July
• General membership meeting this Tuesday June 21st at Sal and Phils – please make an effort to be there.
• Board of Directors Meeting at Sal and Phils Tuesday July 5th
• General Membership meeting for July on Tuesday July 19th

July Tournament Change/Chicot Update

JBC - the board confirmed last night that the July 23rd tournament will be on Lake Washington rather than Ross Barnett. This was part of the swap of last month's tournament that was scheduled to be on lake washington but moved to Barnett due to the flooding in the area.

AGAIN - July 23rd tournament will be on lake Washington.

Also - we have our next tournament on Lake Chicot on June 18th in Lake Village Arkansas. Remember to get your Arkansas fishing license for this one. Also - this lake has a 15" minimum on fish...be prepared for this.

Several of us are staying at the Lake Shore Inn which is located directly on lake Chicot but is now booked up. I have one room with two queen beds if someone needs a place to stay. I believe it was like $65 so it would only cost you $30 bucks or so. Just let me know...first come first serve.

Look forward to seeing everyone at Chicot

Tournament #4 Results and May Newsletter

Well, another tournament on Ross Barnett equals another cold and windy day! After a week of summer like conditions, Saturday’s tournament was met with a dry cold front blowing through with the sun never showing its face. However, from the stats below it looks like as a club we had a good day in terms of numbers of fish. In total we weighed 80 fish for a total of 134.41 lbs. 9 anglers weighed in limits. Not too bad considering the weather conditions. Congrats to Johnnie Baker for winning the Angler division with 5 fish that weighed 10.62lbs. Randy Mills won the Co-Angler division with a 5 fish limit that weighed 10.83lbs. Below are the top anglers from this weekend.

Angler Division:
1st Place – Johnnie Baker 10.62 Lbs
2nd Place – Joel Peeler 10.38 Lbs
3rd Place – JJ Wilson 8.72 Lbs
4th Place – RB Shephard 8.35 Lbs
5th Place – Larry Lowery 7.52 Lbs

Co-angler Division:
1st Place – Randy Mills 10.83 Lbs
2nd Place – George Thrash 8.45 Lbs
3rd Place – Hunter Edwards 7.46 Lbs

Lunker honors were taken by Joel Peeler with a 6.01lb big daddy fish. This fish now leads the lunker of the year category! Congratulations to all these fishermen. JJ’s team won again – big surprise.

Upcoming Events in May/June
• General membership meeting on Tuesday May 24th at Sal and Phils – please make an effort to be there. We moved the date for this one meeting because we have a prospective member to vote on that has been approved by the Board.
• Board of Directors Meeting at Sal and Phils Tuesday June 7th.
• Point tournament on Lake Chicot June 18th.
• General Membership meeting for June on Tuesday June 21st

For the upcoming tournament on Lake Chicot several folks will be staying at the Ramada Inn in Lake Village. Below is the address and phone number if you want to call and get a room.

Ramada Inn
912 S Hwy 65 82
Lake Village, AR 71653
870-265-4545

Reminder - everyone please remember the importance of wearing your life jackets while running on the lake. Never mind that it is a tournament rule that all life jackets be worn and kill switches hooked up while the big motor is running – it is the smart thing to do, especially in the rough water conditions we have been having lately on Ross Barnett. Let’s not let something terrible happen by being lazy! As much as we are all out on the water it is easy to take for granted the safe operation of a boat, however you never know when something bad can happen and we all need to be prepared.

I also want to take this time to thank RB Shephard and Steven Bailey for helping me out Saturday when my trolling motor busted. RB took time out on the water to try and help me fix it and then took Randy Mills for me so he could continue to fish. Steven Bailey came all the way to Tommy’s to let me jump in with him so I could continue to fish after trailering my boat. Because of these guys Randy and I were able to continue on fishing (Randy ended up with the most weight of the day) and earn our points for this tournament. I also had several folks check on me and my boat when I got back to the weigh in. In my opinion this is what the club is all about. Many of you have experienced this kind of effort by our members over the years, but this was my first experience with it and I can’t tell you how much I appreciated it. Keep up the good work guys!

Tournament #4 Moved to Ross Barnett on 5/14

Due to the MS River Flooding over the next several weeks and the impact it will have on all of the families in the area as well as the travel to and from the lake for the club - the Board voted to move the upcoming May 14th tournament to Ross Barnett. Launch will be out of Tommy's Landing. Jim Lowe and the tournament committee will meet over the next month or so to determine how to work Washington back into the schedule for the rest of the year. The board and tournament committee will continue to monitor the flooding and potential damage and how it will affect each tournament going forward. We will keep everyone up to speed on any changes to the schedule via this website and email.

Again - Tournament #4 has been moved to Ross Barnett to take out of Tommy's Landing. We will be going out behind a Team Trails tournament again so be sure and huddle up at the back of Tommy's like we have done the past two tournaments. We will go out just after the Team Trails tournament does.

Feel free to contact a board member if you have any questions.

April 19, 2011 Newsletter/Tournament 3 Results

One word describes this tournament – WIND! Nothing like pulling up to Tommy’s at 5 in the morning to white caps in the chute of Tommy’s Landing (not to mention it was 50 degrees) to get you motivated to fish all day! Kudos to the guys that braved it out and made the best of it. We all did a good job of being safe and making it back to the landing it one piece.

With the above mentioned winds combined with fishing hours after a cold front the fishing was a little tougher this go around. JJ Wilson won the Angler side with 5 fish weighing 12.14lbs. Randy Mills won the Co-Angler side with 4 fish that weighed 6.52 lbs. Congrats to these winners. Overall as a club the numbers were down in terms of total fish and weights. We only had 5 anglers weigh limits and in total we weighed 55 fish for a total of 91.97 Lbs on Saturday. Below are the top anglers from this weekend.

Angler Division:
1st Place – JJ Wilson 12.14 Lbs
2nd Place – Joel Peeler 10.31 Lbs
3rd Place – Jim Lowe 9.34 Lbs
4th Place – TJ Hare, Sr 8.46 Lbs
5th Place – Greg Horne 7.27 Lbs

Co-angler Division:
1st Place – Randy Mills 6.52 Lbs
2nd Place – Hunter Edwards 2.47 Lbs
3rd Place – George Thrash 0.95 Lbs

Lunker honors were taken by Jim Lowe with a 3.83lb fish. Congratulations to all these fishermen. And 3 tournaments in the Team race is over…JJ’s team won again, while embarrassing the Culprits and the War Eagle Team. JJ’s team had more points than the Culprits and War Eagle teams COMBINED! The race for 2nd place has begun! Congrats to the Dead Ringers for putting on a show.

Upcoming Events in April
• TONIGHT!!!! - General Membership Meeting will be at Sal and Phils Tuesday April 19th. Make an effort to be there people!!!!
• Board of Directors Meeting at Sal and Phils Tuesday May 2nd
• Point tournament on Lake Washington Saturday May 14th

I will have extra manuals with me tonight at the meeting so please get one from me if you do not have one.

Tonight we will be having a special board meeting before the general membership meeting to vote on a Mike Murphy’s application to join the club. Most of yall have met Mike as he has fished as a guest with us the last two tournaments. Pending approval of the board, the general membership will be voting on his membership tonight which is just another reason to make every attempt to be there tonight!!

As usual if you see anything on the points or weights that is not correct please let me know. I have double and triple checked everything but that doesn’t mean I haven’t messed something up!

March 21 News Letter - Ross Barnett Tournament Results

March 21, 2011 Newsletter

One would have thought that the way Ross Barnett was setting up – Warmer temps, little wind, few clouds, the spawn during the “super” moon would equal huge sacks of fish….well as it often does it just didn’t turn out that way. Well that is the way it was for everyone except Larry Lowery. With an average of 3.5 lbs per fish Larry brought 17.52lbs to the scale to win by more than 6lbs! Congrats Larry…can’t wait to hear how you did it!!

Overall as a club we did pretty well in terms of number of fish. We had 10 anglers weigh limits and in total we weighed 67 fish for a total of 149.21 Lbs on Saturday. Below are the top anglers from this weekend.

Angler Division:
1st Place – Larry Lowery 17.52 Lbs
2nd Place – RB Shephard 11.48 Lbs
3rd Place – Charlie Moore 10.49 Lbs
4th Place – T.J. Hare, Sr 9.82 Lbs
5th Place – Mike Overall 9.22 Lbs

Co-angler Division:
1st Place – Randy Mills 7.02 Lbs
2nd Place – Hunter Edwards 5.36 Lbs
3rd Place – George Thrash 2.52 Lbs

Lunker honors were taken by Charlie Brown with a 4.66lb fish (right now that is the biggest fish brought to the scales this year). Congratulations to all these fishermen. And as you might expect JJ’s Dead Ringer team put the hurt on the Culprit and War Eagle teams again this tournament. (I have a feeling I will be typing that a lot this year). I will say though that the War Eagle Team showed the most improvement this tournament and came in second place while the culprits came in last (Greg – your buddy going soft on you has really hurt your team’s efforts!!!)

Upcoming Events in April
• Board of Directors Meeting at Sal and Phils Tuesday April 5th
• Point tournament on Ross Barnett Saturday April 16th.
• General Membership Meeting will be at Sal and Phils Tuesday April 19th.

As usual we have a couple of boaters whose insurance expires prior to our next tournament. I will be getting with each of you this week, please get your renewal policy to me as quickly as possible so it will not affect your eligibility for the upcoming tournament in April.

I passed out Manuals at the last General Membership Meeting; however a lot of folks were not present at the meeting. I have the extra manuals in my truck so either at the next meeting or tournament please remind me to get you a copy. Everyone needs to have a manual. I didn’t spend all that time putting those together for them to ride in my truck 

Everyone seems to be taking the challenge of recruiting new members to heart and I am glad to see that! We had a prospective member at the last general membership meeting and at this past tournament. I have heard other speculation from members about other folks interested. Let’s stay on top of these folks and make sure they join. The more quality folks we have in this club the better it is for everyone. It makes the social aspect of the club as well as the competitiveness of the club that much better. Keep up the good work!

As usual if you see anything on the points or weights that is not correct please let me know. I have double and triple checked everything but that doesn’t mean I haven’t messed something up!

March 7th Newsletter - Lake Bruin Results

The 2011 JBC tournament year is off and running. Our first tournament is in the books and let me say that Bruin was much improved from last year (and it didn’t take much). Hard to believe I am typing this, but I am glad we caught Bruin on a rainy /windy day. Based on the pre-fishing reports I heard, it looks like the weather really improved the bite. We had 15 Anglers and 2 Co-Anglers show up and brave the weather. In total we weighed 51 fish for a total of 106.90 lbs. Congrats go to J.J. Wilson for bringing 15.39lbs to the scale and taking first place on the Angler side – quite impressive! Below are your top Anglers from Lake Bruin.

Angler Division:
1st Place – J.J. Wilson 15.39 Lbs
2nd Place – Greg Horne 11.82 Lbs
3rd Place – Dan Stokes 9.38 Lbs
4th Place – Carl Sandberg 8.78 Lbs
5th Place – Joel Peeler 8.07 Lbs

Co-angler Division:
1st Place – Hunter Edwards 4.29 Lbs

Lunker honors were taken by J.J. Wilson with a 4.29lb fish. Congratulations to all these fishermen. Big surprise here I am sure, but JJ’s team the Dead Ringers put it on the Culprits and War Eagles again to win the first tournament team honors. That man knows how to put together a team!!

Hunter Edwards is a new member to the JBC so please take time to introduce yourself to him and make him feel welcome. From looking above, it is obvious it didn’t take him long to settle in as he now leads the co-angler division by 15 points! (I am interested to talk with him and see how many times he hit that new power pole on Peeler’s boat)

Upcoming events
• The General Membership Meeting will be at Sal and Phils Tuesday March 15th.
• Point tournament on Ross Barnett Saturday March 19th.

We have a couple of boaters whose insurance expires prior to our next tournament. I will be getting with each of you this week, please get your renewal policy to me as quickly as possible so it will not affect your eligibility for the upcoming tournament.

Please go ahead and mark your calenders for Saturday September 10th for our annual JBC Fish Fry out at Lake Caroline. There will be more details sent out as we approach the date but this is always a good time of food and fellowship for our club.

I am planning to have the JBC Manuals ready by this next General Membership Meeting (Tuesday March 15th) so please make every effort to attend this meeting and pick up your manual. It is important to be familiar with this manual as it contains everything you need to know about the club from membership to tournament rules to the club by-laws. There are changes from year to year and it is really easy to miss something if you don’t keep up to date.

We all need to make every effort to bring in new members. We all know people who may be interested and we need both boaters and co-anglers. We still want the best members we can get, and I’m sure we can entice some new folks into the JBC with all we have to offer in the form of fun and fellowship. I have heard some speculation that there could be a couple of prospective members at the next general membership meeting so lets all be there and make them feel welcome.

As stated above, the next General Membership meeting is on Tuesday March 15th at Sal and Phils in Ridgeland. We hope to see you there.

General Membership Meeting Location Change

Happy New Year to everyone.

We have found a new place for our General Membership Meetings which are held on the 3rd Tuesday of every month.

The new location will be Sal and Phils on Old Canton Road in Ridgeland. Most of you probably know where the restaurant is located but if you don't the physical address is 6600 Old Canton Road, Ridgeland, MS, 39157 (right across from Amerigos)

We will have our own room and the menu choices look great (salad bar, seafood, steaks, etc) and range in price from $5 to $20 so there is something for everyone.

Our first General Membership meeting is Tuesday, January 18th so go ahead and mark it down and make plans to be there. Dinner at 6 pm with the meeting starting at 7 pm.

Also - just a reminder that Annual Dues are $150 and are due no later than the February Board Meeting which is Feb 1. We would like to have them all paid by the upcoming general membership meeting if at all possible.

We had a good board meeting last night and one of our priorities this year will be recruiting new members and we are working on some nice incentives which Greg will discuss at the upcoming general membership meeting. This meeting is a great time to bring a prospective member so think of some people who might be interested and pick up the phone and give them a call. Also - for a new member to be able to get points for all 10 tournaments this year they will need to get before the board at the February 1st board meeting.

Let me know if you have any questions and we look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday ,January 18th.
